Oaks Christian School is a community of servant-leaders, scholars, artists and athletes. The distinctives of academic excellence, artistic expression, and athletic distinction, - along with our motto of "Minds for Leadership and Hearts for Service," - comprise our four pillars. Our One Oaks Christian philosophy embraces these pillars as we intentionally bring our community together in curricular and extracurricular activities from grades 5 through 12.

Servant-Leaders

Oaks Christian is intentional about providing opportunities for our students to develop leadership skills and empathy that results in community engagement and service. The annual Justice Week shines the light on human trafficking locally and nationally is one of many examples of student-led efforts. In 2016-17, middle school and high school students participated in local charity drives to provide toys for needy children at Christmas, donated gently-used prom dresses to foster care girls and packed care packages for our military personnel serving abroad. Students also voluntarily spent their winter and spring breaks ministering in orphanages, women's shelters, and to those in need in Mexico, Romania, India, Guatemala and the Navajo Nation. The Class of 2017 alone completed 15,000 community service hours.

Scholars

Academic excellence is one of Oaks Christian's distinctives lived out daily in the classroom through innovative programs that foster intellectual curiosity and dynamic teacher-student interaction. Our teachers, known as the "living curriculum," challenge students to think critically and engage in the development of concepts, not just facts and figures. Programs such as our middle school debate team, science fairs, and high school mock trial, entrepreneurs, and knowledge bowl support this focus. In 2016-17, we added new programs and strengthened others in the areas of STEM, robotics, rocketry, coding, film, animation and design.

Artists

Over 70 percent of all OCS students participate in the arts. Middle school and high school both produce a fall play and a spring musical, and also showcase visual arts in the spring. In 2016-17, our high school musical, "Cinderella" was nominated in four categories at the Jerry Herman Awards, a celebration of excellence for high school musicals. Our middle school thespians made an impressive debut in the comedy and diversity categories at the Southern California Drama Teachers' Association Festival. Visual arts students placed again at the "Hang with the Best," community art showcase. Middle school performing arts won silver and gold at the Knott's Berry Farm Music Forum Festival. The high school yearbook won silver from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, joining only 10 percent of yearbooks nationwide honored.

Athletes

Oaks Christian Lions continue to uphold athletic distinction in a variety of sports in both middle school and high school. Many teams advance to post season play. in 2016-17, girls tennis, boys water polo, football, girls basketball, boys track & field and boys golf captured league titles. Additionally, boys golf, boys water polo, and boys and girls track & field clinched CIF titles. Last year, we had a record 30 athletes sign letters of intent to play collegiate sports after graduation. Last year, our middle school undefeated teams included sixth-grade flag football, and sixth-grade boys basketball. League championships in middle school last year included boys golf A team and the Cardinal baseball team. We celebrate these athletic achievements, but also aim to develop character through sportsmanship and team spirit.
