Our yearly stewardship publication is our opportunity to share the impact of your investment in Oaks Christian School. And this year we have lots of fantastic news to share!
As head of school, one of my greatest joys and privileges has been the opportunity to get to know many of our students and their families. The life of this school is amazing and the character and integrity of many who walk this campus is inspiring.
I am delighted and honored to report that, as we begin our 17th year at Oaks Christian School, we have stayed true to our founders’ vision and our motto of “Minds for Leadership and Hearts for Service.” My hope and prayer for each of our 1,340 students is they realize they are known and loved at Oaks Christian, and to understand that God’s specific plan for their life is greater than anything they can imagine.
Our yearly stewardship publication is our opportunity to share the impact of your investment in Oaks Christian. And this year we have lots of fantastic news to share: we have been able to invest in people, programs and facilities that directly impact student learning. That said, I would like to spend a few minutes sharing with you how
we allocate one of our largest areas of expenditures – financial aid - in fulfillment of our mission.
Each year, we are approached by families who lack sufficient means to make the financial sacrifice necessary to attend Oaks Christian School. In order to fulfill
our multi-faceted mission, we use a “needs-based, mission-focused” approach to allocate our limited financial assistance funds. In a nutshell, this means that we
seek to help families, where we can, who demonstrate a significant financial need and whose child would thrive and contribute to the overall mission of the school.
Because of your gifts last year, we were pleased to be able to offer financial assistance this year to 154 of our new families. This year’s distribution was particularly focused on assisting students who could help enhance the overall culture of the community. We are thrilled to have these new students who are now part of our “One Oaks Christian” culture. Last year we launched the One Oaks Christian initiative where we purposefully focused on bringing the community together and linking the curricular and extracurricular activities across the campus from grade 5 to 12. Following is the allocation:
- 76 awards (49%) to students who came primarily for academics
- 37 awards (24%) to students who came primarily for faith
- 21 awards (14%) to students who came primarily for athletics
- 13 awards (8%) to students who are children of faculty or staff
- 5 awards (3%) to students who are siblings of current OCS students
- 2 awards (1%) to students who came primarily for the arts
I wish that I could thank each of you personally, walk you around the campus and share the stories of how your support matters. I want you to know
that you are making a huge impact in the lives of young people. Along with the faculty, staff and the administration, I am deeply grateful.
