Senior Named Gates Millennium Scholar

OCS senior Brandon Coll has been selected as a Gates Millennium Scholar, one of 1,000 students so honored from a pool of 53,000 candidates nationwide. The GMS award is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to students of African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American/Pacific Islander or Hispanic American heritage who have excelled in the areas of leadership, community service and academic achievement.

Coll's family is of Cuban descent. He has served as a varsity football captain, headed up the OCS Special Olympics/Project Unify Club, and been named to several academic honor lists. He has attended Oaks Christian School since the seventh-grade. He will attend the University of Chicago in the fall, playing football and majoring in economics.
