Royce Clayton, former first-round draft pick and 17-year Major League Baseball veteran, has been selected as the new varsity baseball head coach. Clayton will oversee both the high school and middle school baseball programs and has already assumed his new duties.
He has been both MLB All-Star (1997) and a World Series champion (Boston Red Sox, 2007) and is widely considered one of the best shortstops in MLB history (St. Louis Cardinals).
“Oaks Christian is privileged to have someone of Royce’s caliber and character lead and mentor our young men on and off the field,” said OCS Athletic Director Jan Hethcock. “We look forward to a great season with him at the helm.”
In addition to his sports career, Clayton is an accomplished business and community leader. He is a founding member of the Goldwater Bank in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he served on the advisory board. Well known for his philanthropy, Clayton founded the Royce Clayton Foundation in 1997, which is committed to improving the lives of youth and giving back to the community. He was also actively involved in the Jackie Robinson Foundation during his playing career.
