July 8-July 12
8:30am-1:00pm
This one-week summer camp will teach students practical techniques in construction of strategic, compelling arguments, speech preparation, research, refutation, persuasion, critical thinking and listening, all while learning to speak with clarity and conviction.
The students will develop skills to effectively brainstorm a topic, build audience interest and attention, organize the speech, effective use of humor, and delivery strategies. Through many practice rounds, the camp will focus on the techniques and skills necessary to turn the novice speaker into a confident speaker, and the already experienced speaker into a higher-level speaker.
Our mock trial camp is designed to take students step-by-step through the process of mock trials. Students learn the legal process, delivery skills, critical thinking, argument construction, and cross-examinations. By the end of the week, students will not only be introduced to American jurisprudence, but they will also have completed two or more trials.
At the end of the week, the students will welcome friends and family to watch speeches, along with a debate, on campus to see the students use the speech and debate/mock trial skills they learned in camp.
