Learning Center Summer Workshops

The OC Learning Center is excited to offer several options to help your student stay sharp over the summer, prepare for the next school year or receive support for a summer school class they are taking. We also offer private tutoring for first grade through high school for students who want to get ahead or gain an advantage before school starts in the fall. All courses are taught by OC Learning Center staff and require a minimum of three enrolled students to proceed as scheduled.

Executive Function Workshops

Bootcamp Middle School

Unlocking the power of executive functioning skills crucial for academic success. These skills include abilities such as organization, planning, time management, problem-solving, self-control, and working memory. This workshop equips students to develop the skills they are never explicitly taught but are expected to have.

Planning and Organization Middle School

In this workshop, students learn essential strategies for managing their time and tasks effectively. Participants explore methods for creating and maintaining personalized planners, prioritizing tasks, and breaking larger projects into manageable steps. Through hands-on activities and guided exercises, students leave with practical tools to stay organized, meet deadlines, and reduce procrastination. This workshop is ideal for students who want to build a strong foundation in organizing their academic and personal responsibilities.

Study Skills and Test Taking Skills Middle School

This workshop is designed to help students build effective study habits and strengthen their working memory. It covers strategies for note-taking, active recall, creating study guides, and techniques for enhancing focus while studying. Students also practice memory-boosting exercises that can improve retention and recall during tests and assignments.

This workshop is perfect for students looking to enhance their academic performance and develop strategies to retain more information for long-term success.

Students learn effective techniques to maintain focus, manage impulses, and stay organized. Topics discussed include the role of technology, peer influence, and environmental factors in attention and impulse regulation for students to make thoughtful decisions.

In this summer course, students review foundational 4th/5th grade math skills. This class is a good fit for students who will be entering 4th or 5th grade and want a review and reinforcement on foundational math skills.

Pre-Algebra Readiness Bootcamp 6th and 7th Grade

In this summer course, students review foundational 6th/7th grade math skills. This class is a good fit for students who will be entering 6th or 7th grade and want a refresher on foundational math skills.

In this summer course, students review foundational pre-algebra and beginning algebra math skills. This class is perfect for students who will be entering algebra 1 and want a review of prerequisite math skills.

This fun and interactive refresher course keeps Shurley Grammar skills fresh and ready for the school year ahead.* With engaging activities and plenty of practice, students stay on top of their grammar game, so they are prepared and confident for the new academic year in the fall. 

*Oaks Christian Elementary and Middle School use the Shurley Grammar method of grammar as part of the English curriculum.
