GUITAR CAMP
BEGINNER LEVEL
This will be a one-week camp on guitar basics. It is open for all 5th – 8th grade students (No guitar needed. Guitars will be available for student use). Students will learn basic music theory, guitar chords, and an introduction to scales, melody, and lead guitar riffs. Students will learn fun songs from movies like Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Marvel, to classic and popular songs like Ode to Joy, and Happier by Marshmallow. Students will gain access to musical skills and grow in appreciation for music.
Knowledge learned:
-Basics of guitar anatomy
-8 basic chords (allows for playing almost any song)
-Major and minor scales
-Fretboard mechanics and melody skills.
Abilities accomplished:
Each student will leave with at least two songs able to be played. One will be rhythm chord playing and the other will be a basic melody song of their choice and ability level. These will be fun performable songs based on the student’s dedication and practice time.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
This will be a one-week camp on guitar basics. It is open for all 5th – 8th grade students (No guitar needed. Guitars will be available for student use. If you want to bring your own gear that is welcome). To take this class you must have gone through the Beginner Guitar camp at least once before.
Students will advance in our music theory, learning to read music and play from basic scales and sheet music. They will learn more advanced guitar chords, and lead guitar riffs.
Students will choose songs they enjoy and want to learn individually and be given time and private instruction for their advancement in each song. Students will gain access to musical skills and grow in appreciation for music.
Knowledge learned:
-Basics of guitar anatomy
-We will advance to power chords, slidable chords and bar chords.
-Major and minor scales, with an emphasis on rock/pop, and blues/jazz scales.
-Fretboard mechanics and melody skills. We will advance to multiple string and scale melodies.
