Summer Educator Retreat

Why Do We Do What We Do?

Formed for Good:  The Design of Virtue in Education

June 24 -26

On the Campus of Oaks Christian School

Meet the Speaker

David I. Smith

Professor | Director, Kuyers Institute for Christian Teaching and  Learning | Coordinator, De Vries Institute for Global Faculty Development | Senior Editor of the International Journal of Christianity and Education.

RETREAT

Set time aside to listen, reflect, and connect with the purpose and pursuit of meaningful education.  Hearing from unique thinkers, engage in creative activities, reset in solitude, and build friendships around meals.

REFLECT

Education is not a pragmatic pursuit. It is means of redemption that allows us to come to terms with who God is, who we are, and how we are meant to live. We pursue an understanding of the world God created in which we exist and flourish.

REFOCUS

Education is essentially formational. It shapes our thinking, our beliefs, our actions. We spend time refocusing on how practices and instruction provide opportunities to shape humanity, character and desires for good, in both the educator and the student.

The retreat takes place at the beautiful OCS Dole building.

Enjoy the beautiful, nearby Southern California beaches.

Delicious meals provide a culinary highlight to the retreat.

Local trails, such as Paradise Falls, are near the OCS campus.
