This one-week summer camp will teach students practical techniques in construction of strategic, compelling arguments, speech preparation, research, refutation, persuasion, critical thinking and listening, all while learning to speak with clarity and conviction. The students will develop skills to effectively brainstorm a topic, build audience interest and attention, organize the speech, effective use of humor, and delivery strategies. Through many practice rounds, the camp will focus on the techniques and skills necessary to turn the novice speaker into a confident speaker, and the already experienced speaker into a higher-level speaker. At the end of the week, the students will welcome friends and family to watch speeches, along with a debate, on campus to see the students use the speech and debate skills they learned in camp.
