CIF PLAYOFFS ALL AROUND!

Girls' Volleyball Starts Playoffs with Two Straight Victories

The girls’ volleyball team is off and running in CIF playoffs! After finishing with a perfect 10-0 Marmonte League, the Lady Lions are continuing their dominant play in the playoffs. In the first round, Nicole Zake led the team with 16 kills, en route to a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-10, 25-14) over Gahr High School. In Saturday’s second round match against Troy, the Lions came out victorious again, defeating the Warriors in four sets (25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21). Zake again led the team with 15 kills, followed by Manaia Ogbechie who had 12, and Lucia Scalamandre with 10 kills and nine blocks. The team will travel to Arcadia on Wednesday for the third round of playoffs.

Girls' Golf Starts Playoff Push

The girls’ golf team finished its Marmonte League play with a perfect 10-0 record and took first place at the Marmonte League Championship tournament, scoring a record 91 shots better than the second place team. Senior standout Catherine Rao won the individual title with a score of 146, which was three shots better than the second place finisher. Up next for the Lions is the CIF Northern Invitational on Oct. 27, which Rao and Johanna Nio will be competing at as individuals. Oaks will then move on to the CIF Division 2 Team competition on Nov. 2 at Jurupa Hills Country club.

Girls' Tennis Finishes Season

The girls’ tennis team had the final match of the year against Westlake, falling 17-1 to the Warriors. The team finished with a 7-8 overall record and a 5-5 Marmonte League record.

 

Football Grabs First Marmonte League Win

Football opened Marmonte League play with a 17-2 statement victory over cross-town rival Westlake. Johnny Thompson had a 15-yard rush for his fifth touchdown of the year. Sophomore Joseph Marsh then took an interception 93 yards for a score. The Lions moved to 3-5 on the year and 1-0 in Marmonte League play.

Boys' Water Polo Has Final League Game Before Playoffs

The boys’ water polo team picked up a decisive 22-6 victory over Newbury Park in the only action last week. The team has its final game against Westlake on Tuesday before heading to CIF playoffs on Nov. 2.
