Summer Songwriting Camp Collaboration with California Lutheran University - Summer 2019

Presented by California Lutheran University and Oaks Christian School Institute of Arts and Innovation,and featured master teachers included Michelle Tumes, James Burnett, Shelly Peiken, and Travis Heidelman.

Highlights:

  • Students learned from leaders in the industry
  • Attended master classes featuring award-winning songwriters and producers
  • Songwriting specialists help with co-writing team exercises and provided on-on-one mentoring for creating and producing songs
  • Students performed work and received feedback from a panel of prominent music industry experts

Master Class with Alyssa Lein Smith - Fall 2019

Alyssa Lein Smith, Chief of Staff and Media Manager at Quincy Jones Productions (QJP), shared with students about her work in the industry. As the very first master class teacher, Smith engaged students and met with them for personal questions after the class. She began her career with the company during her sophomore year at Loyola Marymount University. Through her role with the company, she has production credits on Taking the Stage: Changing America, the dedication concert for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture; Soundtrack of America, the 5-night opening concert series for The Shed at Hudson Yards; Soul of a Nation Celebration, the official concert dedicated to the Soul of a Nation exhibit at The Broad Museum; and more. In addition to working full-time at QJP, she is a consultant, public speaker, speechwriter, musician, and aerialist.

Jeremy Passion Master Class - Fall 2019

Students were privileged to hear from Jeremy Passion Manongdo, a singer/songwriter/producer known for his soulful, melodic voice, and music with messages on love, life and faith. He reminded students to be their authentic selves because comparison is the thief of joy. Considered a “YouTube sensation” to his fans and musical peers, he is acknowledged as a pioneer of the acoustic R&B /soul movement on the internet. Passion was one of the first Asian-Americans to go viral online with his famous original songs “Lemonade” and “Well Done,” and his acoustic covers of “So Sick” and “Cater 2 U” featuring Melvin Gutierrez, aka, MelvinSings. Along from his love for music, Passion has a heart for people. After doing volunteer work in Ghana in 2007, he was inspired to kick off The Empty Suitcase Project in Tanzania -- a music and arts project with to provide children an opportunity to find their own creative passions. 

James Burnett Master Class - Fall 2019

James Burnett, visited the Oaks Christian campus to inspire music students in their creativity and passions. An American songwriter and entrepreneur, Burnett shared about his journey and lessons he has learned along the way. He is the founder and CEO of Burnett Music Group, a music publishing and production company which represents songwriters, composers and producers to create music for recording artists, film and television.

Rachele Schank Master Class - Fall 2019

Rachele Schank, OCS alumnae Class of 2006,  is an actor and model based in Los Angeles. She received her first formal training at the age of 16 at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and received her bachelors degree in Drama from the UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts.  She inspired students to embrace their creative intuition and follow through despite the presence of fear. She is known for projects such as Legion (FX), Animals (HBO), Days of Our Lives (NBC), Lucifer (Fox) Agent X (TNT), and One Last Night.  She also recently starred in the Dwayne Johnson produced pilot series, Bro Science Life and can be seen in The Dare Project opposite Michael Cassidy. While living in NY, she began a second career as an international fashion model living and working between New York, Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Athens, Los Angeles, and Canada.

Master Class/ Studio Tours with
Fernando Garibay
 - Fall 2019

Hit-making producer, DJ and artist Fernando Garibay spent time with IAI students this fall, sharing his experience as a multi-instrumentalist. IAI students were invited to his studio for a special tour and talk. He has been making music since the age of 16, and garnered two Grammy nominations, five #1s and several 10 Billboard Dance records. He has collaborated nationally and internationally with Lady Gaga, U2 and Britaney Spears. He is currently an executive at Interscope Records and is also signed to Interscope as an artist and producer.
