Service Trips
Service learning is more than singular acts of volunteerism: it is an extension of our learning philosophy that teaches empathy, caring and compassion. Beyond the benefit to the recipient, service learning creates an other-focused mindset and a lifestyle of service in the hearts of our students. Working with and meeting others with different experiences is essential to developing a global perspective. Through these opportunities, it is our hope that our students will learn to love and value all people as God loves and values each person.
These trips fulfill the annual student service requirement. Due to great interest, trips are by application, not sign-up. After the deadline, applications are reviewed and selection is made on the following criteria.
-
Grade level: We strive to consider upperclassmen first.
-
Recommendation by the office of student life: each student traveling must be in good standing and remain in good standing (conduct and behavior)with the office of student life. This demonstrates one’s ability to represent Oaks Christian and oneself in a commendable way.
-
Academic and attendance: students should demonstrate daily attendance and maintain quality grades.
-
Demonstrated service experience: students must demonstrate a heart for service to be considered. This is demonstrated through a consistent history of participating in community service.
