Learning Center Welcomes New Experts

The Oaks Christian Learning Center is pleased to announce the appointments of Dr. Tere Linzey and Nicole Schussel as key additions to their already stellar team of professionals who are helping both OCS and community students succeed academically.

Linzey, a licensed educational psychologist with a neuropsychologist certification and three master's degrees, is recognized as a premier cognitive skills expert. She brings her three decades of knowledge in cognitive skills training to help students of all ages improve their auditory and visual processing. Training in these areas helps improve student attention, focus, memory, organization, planning and problem solving.

While at the University of California, Berkeley, Linzey became fascinated with brain science and the ability to alter cognitive function, leading her to develop her own comprehensive program to optimize brain function. In addition to her work at Oaks Christian, she also serves as an educational consultant and maintains her own successful, private practice.

Schussel is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University with a bachelor's degree in education, and a master's degree in speech-language pathology. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association, as well as California licensure in speech-language pathology. She began her career with the Los Angeles Unified School District working with pre-K through high school students with a wide variety of speech, language, developmental, and cognitive needs.

With over 12 years of experience working with children with special needs, Schussel is now a speech-language pathologist at the speech and audiology clinic at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a member of the UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital Craniofacial Team, and regularly gives lectures to UCLA pediatric residents. She has worked with students who demonstrate expressive and receptive language disorders, articulation and phonological disorders, fluency/stuttering, pragmatic language disorders, learning disabilities, hearing loss, craniofacial anomalies, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

"I am so pleased to welcome both Tere and Nicole to the OC Learning Center Team. They are great additions to the resources and services we are already providing to OCS students, families and members of the community," said OC Learning Center Director Dr. Kelly Johnson. "We'd love for our families and students to stop by the Learning Center to meet them personally."

Linzey offers one-on-one sessions or small group sessions during the regular school week and on weekends, as well. Schussel will meet with students one-on-one during the school week. Their services are offered on-site at the OC Learning Center through appointments.

Founded in as a pilot program in 2011, the OC Learning Center was formally established in 2012 and has served hundreds of OCS students, public and homeschool students in the areas of private academic tutoring, SAT and ACT test preparation, brain performance development, cognitive skills training and psychoeducational testing.
