Education has become much more specialized. The institute model allows a student to follow an individualized learning pathway of their choosing, while at the same time getting a holistic general education

This institute provides an opportunity for our OCS students who have already made the decision to follow Jesus to dive deeper into their knowledge, faith and commitment to God. We provide opportunities for spiritual formation within the context of the discipleship relationship.

Our purpose is to "raise up the next generation of disciples for Jesus." Participation will also be excellent preparation for those who wish to go to Bible college, seminary or ministry vocation in the future.

The institute if for OCS students who have already made a decision to follow Jesus, and who want to grown in knowledge, wisdom, and Christ-likeness.

No. Students will fulfill all graduation requirements for an Oaks Christian High School diploma.

Students are provided with a four-year class plan in theology and discipleship, individual mentoring, a lecture series, graduation cords with diploma designation, a summer leadership camp, additional service opportunities and some "voice and choice" in their Bible class curriculum.

Students will be expected to exemplify a Christian lifestyle and model the Portrait of a Graduate. Furthermore, following an individulized learning pathway will naturally limit access to some other classes and programs.

In addition to serving in the chapel program during junior year, we hope students will collaborate with other mission, service and institute trips.

No. Both students and faculty will re-evaluate each year if the institute is a good fit. A student's only requirement is to complete the general five-semester Bible curriculum.

No. As is true for all students, institute participates will need to purchase books for certain classes, and, if possible, to help offset some of the costs of the summer leadership camp.

In addition to the regular Bible curriculum, institute students will take an additional four semesters of Bible for a total of nine semesters.

Students may substitute one semester of a regular Bible class with a Bible elective and may substitute one semester of Bible institute class with an appropriate, faculty-approved independent study. The two exceptions are that all institute students must take the "Life of Christ," and the "Catalyst" class.

Yes. Institute students will serve a supporting role in chapel during their junior year and will do a capstone project in their area of interest during their senior year. Additionally, it is hoped that each student will participate in a leadership summer camp and at least one mission/service trip.

The purpose of a capstone is to create a project that will be a representative body of work where a student will synthesize their knowledge and experience. The capstone will either be a research paper in the student's interest or a project that represents their passion for others.

Like our school, the institute is historically-informed Protestant without being anti-Catholic or anti-Eastern Orthodox. Our instruction is hedged by our Biblical Worldview and our Statement of Faith.

No. Electives will rotate according to student interest and faculty availability.

Courses are taught by the Institute Director Dr. Jim Altizer who has a doctorate in theology and a masters in education. All additional institute faculty have a masters in theology and some with post-graduate work.

No. Students cannot be simultaneously enrolled in other institutes. All institutes utilize student electives and free periods for their course of study.

Yes.
