An interactive, project-based curriculum develops hands-on skills to solve complex problems that can affect true change in the lives of others. Students master software and prototyping tools used in the industry. Courses cover the primary topics of university engineering programs but also include a philosophy of engineering and an introduction to the industry design review process.

MOTTO
To solve world problems through innovative thought and hearts of service.

Our world-class, state-of-the-art engineering curriculum, taught by industry professionals and expert faculty, is designed to give students real-world opportunities and projects in the disciplines of aerospace, biomedical, electronic, environmental, mechatronics, and architecture. Each pathway ends with an independent senior capstone project.

Unlimited Possibilities

Intro to Engineering

Students are introduced to the design process used in all engineering disciplines. Life skills are developed as they work individually and collaborate in teams while working with aggressive timelines. Each unit involves software and hardware application. The program provides a glimpse into mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software development, aerospace engineering, and civil engineering.

Industrial

The industrial engineering exposes students to the world of process improvement, organizational layout, queueing theory, simulations, and other relevant topics. Students develop their skills in presentation, analysis, and innovation while exploring the world of industrial engineering

Aerospace

Aerospace engineering looks at both aeronautical and astronautical environments. We utilize different software to design and model performance of planes, gliders, rockets, and weather balloons and then build those vehicles to test our analysis. We study the environments of space, Martian, and lunar worlds. We study how things change at cryogenic temperature, in vacuum or minimal atmosphere, with dust storms, and in zero or reduced gravity.

Electrical

Electrical engineering introduces college-level courses through theory and hands-on lab. Analog circuits as well as digital circuits are designed and analyzed. The goal is to design the unique electrical circuits for their own applications. Students learn how to run the circuit simulation using SPICE without building electrical circuits in hardware to verify their designs.

Architecture

The program includes AutoCAD modeling, force and load analysis, design reviews, hands-on fabrication of models and furniture. Students designed eco homes, tiny homes, and built a 480 square foot shipping container cabin. Insulation, plumbing, wiring, painting, flooring, and cabinetry are taught. Design reviews are conducted with city building and safety supervisors, professional engineers, and contractors.

Biomedical

Biomedical Engineering applies engineering principles to design solutions in biology and medicine. Using interdisciplinary engineering principles, students explore a range of healthcare applications such as electronic medical devices, 3D-printed prosthetics, and digital health modeling. Students incorporate biological principles in the engineering design process to influence human health.

Mechatronics

Mechatronics engineering is an interdisciplinary field developing robotics, controls, and electromechanical systems. Students utilize mechanical, electrical, and software engineering fundamentals to design smart and automated solutions for various engineering disciplines.

Environmental & Humanitarian

The environmental/humanitarian class is unique. Students have partnered with Global Brigades to engineer a water collection, treatment, storage, and distribution system for villages in Honduras and Nicaragua. They have also created a solar-powered solution for light poverty and unique recycling solutions.

Ross Family IDEA Lab

Our 14,000-square-foot Ross Family IDEA Lab (Innovation, Design, Engineering, Aeronautical) is home to the Institute of Engineering and a vortex of creativity, invention, amazement, and discovery. The facility is like no other high school science lab in the state of California, giving OCS students a jump in STEM career paths (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
