2026 Spring Sports Preview

Baseball

Another year, another MLB draft prospect for the Lions. Senior Carson Sheffer figures to lead the Lions offensively. The catcher, who’s committed to Oklahoma State University, has had multiple MLB workouts ahead of his senior campaign. Seniors Luke Puls, Chad Rollison, Jack Brinkman will lead the Lions offensively. Underclassmen Dayne Disney, Ryan Sheffer, and Oliver Daskurtis will contribute. The pitching staff will be anchored by Connor Sahagun, Justus Baird, and Christian Ipsen.

Girls’ Beach Volleyball

The defending Marmonte League champs are looking to continue their winning ways. The Lady Lions will be anchored by the No. 1 pair of Jady Mape and Sadie Kocur. Mape and Kocur are both continuing their beach volleyball career at the collegiate level. Elyse Wong and Avery Wilkonsen will hold down the No. 2 pairings slot.

Boys’ Lacrosse

It’s not a rebuild, but the Lions are looking to reset after graduating a stellar class last season. Chase MacLeod, who coach Geoff Sebold calls “the best player in the county,” is back to lead the Lions offensively. Junior Amani Coleman returns for the Lions after playing football in the fall. Trevor Harris will lead the Lions defensively, while Greg De Groote will also be a factor. Ben Hatfield joins the program and will contribute to the defensive unit. Ian Hall gets the nod in goal.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The defending CIF-SS Div. 3 champs are back and looking for more this season. Julia Forsyth returns, along with Addie Bernd, Addie Davis, and Leighton Spruill give the Lady Lions the belief that they can repeat as champs. Sophia Flosi and Ella Catalano will split time in goal this season. Brynn Ruesga and Reese Henrich will anchor the defensive unit. Barrett Bernd and Jaime Lee are newcomers that could make an immediate impact.

Softball

Don’t park in the D-Lot if you’re worried about your car being hit by a softball. These ladies can swing it with the best of them. Terrianna Kelley, headed to Bringham Young University, is back to lead a stacked Lions lineup. Seniors Reagan Beck, Gia Otani, Cam Quintana, and Savanna Campos will contribute offensively. Sophomore standout Trystyn Crutcher looks to build off her successful freshman campaign. Sophia Debs is the ace in the circle for the Lions.

Boys’ Track and Field

The distance boys are looking to have another run at it after a successful fall season in cross country. Junior Brooks Bennett joins senior Vin Krueger, junior Arize Nwosu, and freshman phenom Sterling White, looking to have the boys in position to compete at a high level come postseason time. Chase Evans will compete in the 400 meter.

Girls’ Track and Field

Rayah Rodriguez, headed to the University of Washington, is back and looking to have a stellar senior campaign in the 400 meter and 4x100 relay team event. Delaney Napierala, headed to University of California, San Diego, looks to compete in the 800-meter, 1,600 meter, 4x400, and 4x800 events. Junior Chiara Baker returns and will strengthen relay teams.  Soleil Holtrop and Savanah Williams are newcomers who can make an immediate impact for the Lady Lions.

Boys’ Volleyball

The boys’ volleyball program has been building leading up to this season. Head Coach Dr. Bryan Wong said this is the first time they had to make cuts to a varsity roster in years. He’s hoping that, coupled with the 10 players on the roster that play year-round club, volleyball will position the Lions for a return to the postseason. Curran Pendergraft, Cameron Judd, Max Medrano, Emerson Gastelum, and Mikey Garcia are seniors who will lead the Lions. Darren McWilliams, Izzy von Watts, and Will DeBolt will be impact newcomers.

Boys’ Golf

Max Emberson, headed to the University of Oklahoma, returns for his senior campaign as a Lion. He holds the current low-round for the Lions firing a 63 at Los Robles Golf Course last year. Junior Broxton Borck is also back coming of a successful junior campaign. The Lions have won the last eight consecutive Marmonte League titles.

Boys’ Tennis

Last year’s trip into the CIF-SS Div. 4 quarterfinals was great, but this year the Lions want more. Dylan Lin returns for his senior campaign after leading the Lions to their first Marmonte League title since 2014. Tristan Girodet also returns from the team. Sam Vatandoust, Noah Pertulla, and Paul Chen are newcomers who will make an impact for the Lions.

Swim and Dive

The girls’ and boys’ swim programs are coming off a year where both programs won the always competitive Marmonte League crown. The boys’ program followed that up winning their first CIF title since 2012 when the 200 freestyle relay team featuring returners Wyatt Williamson and Darion Wang won at Mt. SAC.
