Hirtensteiner named head coach of OCS baseball program
Oaks Christian has named Rick Hirtensteiner as the next head coach of the Lions baseball program. Coach Hirtensteiner joins Oaks Christian after serving as the head baseball coach for Pepperdine University over the past nine seasons.
“It was a thorough process to find this new head coach and we found the right person to lead our student-athletes and this program,” said Oaks Christian Head of Athletics Dr. Brad Cook. “I’m excited to have coach Hirtensteiner on board and look forward to seeing what he’s going to do, not just for this program, but for our school as a whole.”
Hirtensteiner has approximately 29 years of coaching experience, including serving at Lamar University, University of San Diego, and Pepperdine University. In addition, Coach Hirtensteiner coached in the Cape Cod Baseball League shortly after playing professionally with the Angels, Marlins, and Expos organizations.
“It’s an added bonus that he’s coming from the collegiate level, but it certainly wasn’t a prerequisite,” Cook said. “He can relate to these student-athletes, and he can help them get to where they want to go; in baseball and in life.”
Coach Hirtensteiner earned a bachelor's of science in business administration from Pepperdine University, while competing with the Waves baseball program, setting multiple team records. He later earned a master's in business administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
“We are blessed to have him lead the baseball program as our community pursues the advancement of Jesus Christ and His kingdom,” Cook concluded.
