Oaks Christian Debuts Flag Football

Oaks Christian Debuts Flag Football

Oaks Christian has entered flag football competition for the first time in school history, and has named Marc Tyler, class of 2006, as the inaugural coach of the Oaks Christian girls’ flag football program.

Tyler, an Oaks Christian Middle School teacher’s assistant, is deeply rooted in Oaks Christan’s charter of athletic distinction. He was a member of the 2006 state championship Lions football team that went 15-0, including a 27-20 victory against Cardinal Newman at the Home Depot Center for the school's lone CIF state football title.

“I got on campus here when Coach Bill Redell was in the process of developing a culture for our tackle football program and I’m excited to get the opportunity to do that with our girls’ flag football program,” Tyler said. “Being unified under Jesus Christ, hard work, playing together, and being grateful for the gifts God has given us will be the cornerstones of our program.”

Tyler is in the process of assembling a coaching staff at Oaks Christian.

“Having an Oaks Christian alumnus at the helm is huge,” said OCS Head of Athletics Dr. Brad Cook. “He understands the culture of Oaks Christian and has a passion for our community. I’m excited to watch him lead the program in our first season of flag football.”

Tyler amassed nearly 4,700 career rushing yards, and 76 career touchdowns, as the running back at Oaks Christian. He was named a USA Today All-American and a California Gatorade Player of the Year in 2006.

Oaks Christian will compete in the always competitive Marmonte League against which consists of opponents Agoura, Calabasas, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and Westlake. The CIF-SS originally sanctioned flag football as an official sport in the fall of 2023.
